About
Diana Magallón-Romero
Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC)
As a lifelong learner, I have been fortunate to develop between cultures, in Mexico City (si, hablo español), Vancouver, and Montreal (oui, je parle français). I have worked in both the performing arts and massage therapy (with at least one existential crisis along the way) before coming full circle to my first professional love: counselling psychology. The thread weaving these seemingly disparate explorations together is a desire to foster creation, connection, healing, and evolution. Informed by this richness of experience, I have come to see human beings as mind, body, and spirit, all in one.

My Approach
Though I have a piece of paper that says I know about counselling, I see you as the expert on your life, and so, I invite you to work with me in the therapeutic process. Together, we can co-create meaning and collaborate on interventions suited to your individual needs, resources, challenges, and style. I celebrate diversity and recognize the complexity of intersecting identities.

I believe that our childhoods are important in shaping us, and our environments, experiences, and connections can deeply influence us. At the same time, I believe that, by becoming more (self) aware, we become empowered to pursue the kind of life we want to lead and flourish into the kind of people we want to be.
What matters most to me (and to research on counselling effectiveness) is that we are a good “fit” for each other, and that we build a therapeutic relationship that is open, trusting, playful, and educational. I work from your perspective – at its funniest, its darkest, and its most turbulent – as a calm, curious, and compassionate companion.
My "Ideal" Client
My ideal clients, or clients that I work best with, are people who feel a little out of place, or not quite at home in this world - people who are affected by things, and in ways, that others in their lives cannot always understand. I hesitate to use the word “sensitive” to describe you because it is too often used as a negative, but I mean quite the opposite! You might have a read on people before others do; you might feel like you speak a different language at times; or sense things that others don’t seem to notice or be bothered by. You might feel overwhelmed about simply existing at times, or seem to be constantly starting over, or just feel a bit lost.

As a creative person, I always enjoy working with people who are curious, who think outside the box, who are willing to play, experiment, and discover new layers of themselves. I work well with people who want to understand themselves better - body, mind, and spirit. I love people who want to uncover and align with their spiritual mission in life, who want to have a positive impact on their communities and our collective home. For you, maybe that means breaking the cycle of generations of trauma; maybe it’s becoming unshackled from self-doubts and pursuing a passion or dream; maybe it’s learning to fall in love with yourself and seeing how that love ripples outward; and maybe it’s creating the space to recharge from the weariness of caring about so many things - so that you can keep going!
